Trench

Review by: General Death Midnight Trench Run Midnight Trench Run is large open area consisting of a maze of trenches. There are four routes to get from one side to the other. The brushwork and texturing are very basic in this map yet no major errors are visible. Presentation / Technical Texturing was very basic and really only consisting of a handful of different ones. Most of the textures were aligned correctly and there were no areas where they overlapped also known as Z-fighting. The only error I really saw was the texture used for the tops of the trench walls. It was the same texture used on the walls that didn·t work since that was a wall texture not a top or cap concert texture. Lighting was appropriate and was in harmony with the theme. Each path was lit with a different color, which made it easy to stay on route. Only thing funny about the lighting was that the models used to represent the origin of light. The lanterns where hanging in space on the walls. Some kind of hardware that they could of hanged from would have helped. Brushwork was very basic. Everything was based off of 90° angles. Some more creative brushwork would have been nice to see. Terrain was perfectly flat which just seemed very weird. No brushwork errors though were visible in the map. When it comes to Creativity and Theme, I think I have lost count of the number of trench maps. Its not that trench maps in themselves are the problem but from what I have seen these are not "trenches"...they appear more to be simply "maze" maps. On that note I think creativity was lacking except for the lighting of the paths. Theme seemed to be fine as far as nothing out of the norm other than the trench issue we just discussed. Playability / Game Flaws This is an area that unfortunately I was not able to check out 100% since I could not find a server that had it in rotation while I was doing this review today. As simple as the map is I don·t really think there is any "game flaws". Playability on the other hand I think might be average on "flow" and "fun" based off of the layout. I can·t see myself playing it for hours due to its "maze" layout but other simple maps have really been fun once played with others and can deceive you from face value. So that·s the reason that the areas received average marks...if I can find it on a server ill update the review either up or down depending the results. Conclusion This is a good fundamentally sound map and from its basic construction I am assuming that its one of the authors first releases. Unfortunately like I said I didn·t get to play this on a server but it could be an interesting map to take a break from the others you maybe used to. This map is worth a download if your into "maze" style maps

Round-Based Elimination

Pure clan warfare without respawns or bomb objectives. Each player has only one life per round, making tactical corner-peeking, smoke grenades, callouts, and sound discipline vital. Widely played in European leagues like ClanBase, CAL, and ESL.
